CLAIRE CARDON   -  
VIOLIN and VIOLA (Lifetime member!)       A native of northern Virginia, Claire began her studies on the violin at age 9. Although training as a classical musician, Claire expanded her horizons by playing in the re-creation 18th-Century group The Musick of Turkey Run Farm for four years. During this time, she participated in her first recording, "The Martial Musick of Yorktown," to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Battle of Yorktown. Claire attended the University of Virginia, where she performed with the Charlottesville Symphony. Since college, she has performed with the Alexandria, Fairfax, McLean, and Roanoke Symphony Orchestras (RSO), and the Mount Vernon Chamber Orchestra, as well as the pit orchestra for the Washington Savoyards. Claire can be heard on the RSO recording of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (1997), as well as their "American Piano Concertos" (1998) with Norman Krieger. In addition to her work with The Alexandria Kleztet, Claire played in and directed the string quartet With Strings Attached. She has freelanced as a soloist and a strolling string, taught private violin/viola students, and served as an adjudicator for the annual (VA) Solo and Ensemble Festival. Claire and husband Joel also can be heard on a soon-to-be-released recording by singer/songwriter Alex Pilotti. |

JOHN SAUSSER   -  
PERCUSSION       John has been performing in the Washington, D.C., area for over 20 years. He performs regularly with Calabash, a jazz/rock variety band, freelances in the metro D.C. area and gives private lessons. He has performed with the Kashmir Jazz Trio, as well as dance, lounge, and progressive rock bands. A versatile musician, John is at home playing a variety of styles: klezmer, jazz, rock, latin, reggae, funk, and fusion rock. John plays the drumset, djembe, tablas, doumbek, conga, timbale, marimba, and many other unusual percussion instruments.  JOHN ROBERTS, III   -   DOUBLE BASS       An Alexandria native, John recently returned to the States after performing as the Assistant Principal Bass for the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León in Valladolid, Spain. While in Spain, John presented children's concerts and bass demonstrations, and coached the student orchestra Allegro Assai. John attended the University of Virginia and Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with Hal Robinson. A member of the National Orchestral Institute, John also was a member of the bass quartet Bass Rex and performed in master classes given by Gary Karr and François Rabbath. John currently lives in New Orleans and is pursuing entrance to medical school. |
